Saint John River Flooding in New Brunswick Update 7

FREDERICTON (CNB) - River Watch 2008 and the Department of Public Safety's New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization are reducing the alert level to a flood watch, effective today, Monday, May 12, 2008.

Persons living or working along streams, tributaries and rivers in the lower St. John River valley are asked to remain on alert, as we remain near or above flood stage in the following areas: Jemseg, Sheffield - Lakeville Corner and the Quispamsis - Saint John areas.

The weather forecast for the next several days is fair; as a result, the decreasing water levels will continue. Water levels may fluctuate in response to tidal influences.

As of 11:30 a.m. water levels were as follows:

In Fredericton, the water level was 5.78 metres and is expected decrease to 5.4 metres by Tuesday morning and to 5.1 on Wednesday. Flood stage is 6.5.

In Maugerville, the water level is at 5.39 metres and is expected to decrease to 5.0 metres on Tuesday and 4.7 on Wednesday. Flood stage is 6.0.

In Jemseg, the water level is at 4.83 metres and will decrease slightly to 4.7 metres on Tuesday and on Wednesday to 4.5. Flood stage is 4.3.

In Grand Lake, the water level is at 4.82 metres and is expected to decrease slightly to 4.7 metres on Tuesday and on Wednesday to 4.5. Flood stage is 5.0.

In Sheffield-Lakeville Corner, the water level is at 4.92 metres and is expected to decrease slightly to around 4.8 metres on Tuesday and on Wednesday to 4.6. Flood stage is 4.8.

In Oak Point, the water level is at 4.24 metres and is expected to have a high tide level of around 4.2 metres on Tuesday and decrease on Wednesday to 4.0. Flood stage is 4.7.

In Quispamsis-Saint John, the water level is at 4.05 metres and is expected to have a high tide level of 4.1 metres on Tuesday and decrease to 3.9 metres on Wednesday. Flood stage is 4.2.
