Hi Folks,

I typically don’t send updates unless we are dealing with a major snow storm but I think the approaching storm requires an update of how we are planning on handling the storm and what you can expect.

There are many different reports but we can expect 50mm to 150mm of rain over the next 48 hours. This is a significant amount of rain and is compounded at this time of year due to leaves over catch basins. Our City crews have been running shifts cleaning up leaves diligently over the past 2 weeks throughout the City, not just Ward 12 and this will continue. With the amount of rain forecasted, we can expect a lot more leaves to fall and subsequently catch basins will be plugged. The problem with leaves is that they come down all at ones over the whole City and the rain carries them to catch basins and plugs them.

With that said, flooding can be expected due to plugged catch basins. Our crews are preparing now and are ready to respond at all hours of the day when the storm hits. We encourage residents not to rake leaves onto the street from their lawns and clear out the catch basins in front of their homes to help the water get off the street.

If you have any questions, let me know!
