Wind warning for

Avalon Peninsula South issued

Gusts to 100 km/h are expected near Cape Race this evening.

This is a warning that potentially damaging winds are occurring in this region. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system currently over the Grand Banks will slowly move off to the east tonight into Sunday. Strong northeasterly winds gusting to near 100 km/h are expected near Cape Race this evening.

The Avalon Peninsula.

A low pressure system currently over the Grand Banks will remain over
the Grand Banks today before moving off to the east tonight into
Sunday. Heavy rain was observed over much of the Avalon Peninsula
overnight and this morning, with 25 to 40 millimeters reported in
many areas. Although the heavy rain has tapered off, rain is
expected to persist over the Avalon Peninsula into Sunday.
Another 15 to 25 millimeters are expected over parts of the Avalon
Peninsula before ending on Sunday. Environment Canada will continue
monitor the situation.
