Freezing rain warning for
Fredericton and Southern York County issued

Extended period of freezing rain is expected over parts of these regions.

A low pressure system over the Eastern United States will track northeastward to lie over Southern New Brunswick by this evening. Snow at times heavy is expected to continue over Northern New Brunswick tapering to flurries by morning. Over southern regions the snow will change through ice pellets and freezing rain then to rain by this evening. Snowfall amounts up to 15 cm are expected over central regions of New Brunswick followed by an extended period of freezing rain this evening and ending after midnight. Total snowfall amounts of up to 30 centimetres are expected over northern regions. Rainfall amounts up to 25 millimeters are expected over the Fundy coast.

Guysborough County issued

Up to 30 millimetres of rain is expected by Saturday morning.

This is a warning that significant rainfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system over the Eastern United States will track northeastward to lie over Southern New Brunswick by this evening. The low will then move to lie east of Cape Breton Island by Saturday evening. Periods of snow changing through ice pellets and freezing rain then to rain are forecast for this evening for northern sections. Precipitation has already changed over to ice pellets or freezing rain and rain over southern sections. 30 millimetres of rainfall is expected over southwestern and Atlantic coastal sections of Nova Scotia by Saturday morning.

Strong southeast winds associated with this low pressure system will gust up to 110 km/h from Margaree Harbour to bay St. Lawrence beginning late this evening. These winds should diminish near dawn on Saturday.

Heavy snow, strong winds, and blowing snow can be expected overnight and/or Saturday.

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system over Quebec will intensify as it tracks northeastward approaching Newfoundland tonight. Strong easterly winds are expected to spread across the island ahead of this system with gusts to 120 km/h expected in the Wreckhouse area overnight and to 140 km/h Saturday morning. Additionally easterly winds gusting to 110 km/h are expected along parts of the southwest and west coasts on Saturday.

Snow will develop ahead of this system tonight over Southwestern Newfoundland and will spread to the remainder of the island by Saturday morning.

For central, northeastern, and Western Newfoundland as well as the Burgeo highway: snowfall amounts ranging from 20 to 30 cm can be expected and will combine with strong winds to give reduced visibilities in blowing snow.

For southern and Eastern Newfoundland: snow is expected to change through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain. There is still potential for significant snowfall in these areas before this changeover.

A special weather statement is in effect for the remainder of the island.
