November 2015 Climate Summary for Northern and Eastern Maine

November 2015 finished both warmer and drier than average across the entire region with below average snowfall. Temperatures averaged 2 to 4 degrees above average. Precipitation only averaged 40 to 65 percent of normal, and snowfall was 20 to 45 percent of normal for the month.

At Caribou, the average temperature of 35.4 degrees and snowfall total of 3.8 inches were both the 9th warmest and 9th least snowiest November of record.

At Bangor, the aveage temperature of 39 degrees was 2.1 degrees Above normal. The total of 2.26 inches was tied at 12th driest with 1981.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for December calls for an increased likelihood of above normal temperatures across northern and eastern Maine.  There are no strong climate signals that would point toward an unsually wet (snowy) or dry month.

The average temperatures continue to drop rapidly during the month of December. At Caribou (Bangor), the average highs fall from 32 (39) on the 1st to 22 (29) by the end of the month. The average lows at Caribou (Bangor) fall from 18 (23) to 5 (9) by months end. The Winter solstice this year occurs at 11:49 pm EST on the 21st.  The
average snowfall at Caribou during the month of December is 22.9 Inches, and at bangor is 14.4 inches.
