End of the month Nor'Easter

Snowfall warning in effect for:
  • Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
Snowfall, with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

A low pressure system near the Great Lakes will track east and merge with a low tracking up the eastern seaboard. The merged low will then intensify and track south of Nova Scotia on Friday. Snow will begin near noon on Friday in Nova Scotia and in the afternoon in Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands. Along the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia precipitation will begin as rain where up to 20 mm is forecast. Snow will intensify Friday afternoon and persist Friday evening before tapering to flurries overnight. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm can be expected by Saturday morning.

Current snowfall accumulation estimates over southeastern New Brunswick and western Prince Edward Island are 10 to 15 centimetres but could possibly exceed 15 centimetres depending on the track and severity of this storm.

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A low pressure system near the Great Lakes will track east and merge with a low tracking up the eastern seaboard. The merged low will then intensify and track south of Nova Scotia on Friday. Snow will begin near noon on Friday over mainland Nova Scotia and in the afternoon in Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island. Along the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia precipitation will begin as rain where up to 20 mm is forecast. Snow will intensify Friday evening before tapering to flurries early Saturday. High winds combined with heavy snow may result in whiteout conditions in local blowing snow over some areas. Total snowfall accumulations of 25 to 40 cm can be expected.
