* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW, SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 5 INCHES WEDNESDAY
  MORNING INTO LATE AFTERNOON...ALONG WITH AROUND ONE QUARTER OF
  AN INCH OF ICE.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...AROUND ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...3 TO 5 INCHES.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL START WEDNESDAY MORNING AROUND DAYBREAK. SNOW
  WILL MIX WITH AND EVENTUALLY CHANGE TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN
  BY LATE AFTERNOON AND CONTINUING THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT.

* IMPACTS...EXPECT SOME TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. SNOW, SLEET AND A

THURSDAY...

.LOW PRESSURE TRACKING NORTHEAST FROM THE MIDWEST INTO THE SAINT
LAWRENCE VALLEY OF QUEBEC WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY WILL BRING A
PERIOD OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL OVER NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
PORTIONS OF THE REGION THAT STILL HAS SOME SNOW PACK AND RIVER
ICE. THE CONCERN IS THAT THE COMBO OF RAINFALL AND SNOWMELT COULD
RESULT IN ENOUGH RUNOFF TO RESULT IN MINOR STREAM FLOODING AND THE
DISLODGING OF RIVER ICE ON MAINSTREAM RIVERS FOR POSSIBLE ICE

Freezing rain warning in effect for:
  • Fredericton and Southern York County
Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A low pressure system will approach from the southwest pushing a warm front over the province during the day on Wednesday. Snow will develop ahead of the front Wednesday morning. The snow will change to freezing rain over southern portions of the province Wednesday afternoon and in the evening over northern regions. The freezing rain will persist for several hours before changing to rain from the south overnight. The freezing rain may persist until early Thursday morning over portions of northern New Brunswick.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Special weather statement in effect for:
  • Fredericton and Southern York County
On Wednesday, a low pressure system will approach from the southwest. Snow will develop ahead of the low Wednesday morning and will change to rain over southern sections of the province Wednesday afternoon. The snow is expected change to a period of freezing rain over central and northern sections before changing to rain Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The rain will persist through the day Thursday and may be heavy at times over southwestern portions of the province. The public is advised that warnings for freezing rain and rainfall may be required.

A low pressure system is forecast to approach from the southwest on Wednesday. Snow will develop overnight Tuesday over southwestern Nova Scotia and spread northward throughout the day on Wednesday. The snow will begin to changeover to rain Wednesday morning over southwest areas and by Wednesday afternoon for northern sections. The rain will continue Wednesday night and Thursday as the low slowly moves to lie near Anticosti island by Thursday evening. Rainfall amounts in excess of 50 mm is possible and rainfall warnings will likely be required for Thursday.

  • Queens County P.E.I.
A low pressure system is forecast to approach from the southwest on Wednesday. Snow will develop ahead of the low beginning near noon on Wednesday and changeover to rain late in the afternoon as the warm front extending from the low pushes across the island. As the warm front moves northward Wednesday evening, rain will continue Wednesday night and into Thursday as the low moves to lie near Anticosti island by Thursday evening.

Snowfall amounts near 10 cm are expected before the snow changes to rain. Rainfall amounts in excess of 25 mm is very possible on Thursday and rainfall warnings will likely be required for Thursday.
