Freezing rain warning in effect for:
  • Fredericton and Southern York County
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A developing low pressure system south of the Great Lakes will track eastward today passing south of the Maritimes tonight. Snow and freezing rain will move into the province tonight with the majority of the freezing rain occurring south and west of the Saint John River. The freezing rain will taper off Friday morning as the low moves away.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

  • Queens County
Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A developing low pressure system South of the Great Lakes will track eastward and pass South of the Maritimes tonight. A prolonged period of freezing rain is expected to begin this evening and persist into Friday morning, especially over inland regions that are sheltered from Easterly winds blowing off the Atlantic Ocean. Snow is expected to dominate over areas around Cape Split of Kings County as the track of the low should remain far to the South of the province.
Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Utility outages may occur.

  • Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
A developing low pressure system South of the Great Lakes will track eastward and pass South of the Maritimes tonight. If the low maintains its forecast track, ice pellets or periods of freezing rain can be expected West of Highway 103 and to the West of Halifax. Elsewhere, snow is forecast. Precipitation will begin this evening. Ice pellets and freezing rain will taper off Friday morning as the low moves out to sea.
