Sections of streets in downtown Montague, P.EI., have been blocked off after they were damaged by heavy rain Sunday.

"I haven't seen rain like that in years and years," said Peter Metaxas, who had to pull over in his car to wait it out.

"The rain was heavy enough to move pieces of asphalt that probably weighed 15 pounds."

The streets will be blocked off at least for the rest of the day, said RCMP Const. Chad Cormier.

"The rain washed down from Main Street onto Patrick Street, and it looks like it might have gotten underneath the road and just wore it out and the roads caved in in places," he said.

Residents in Halifax took to social media Saturday night to share their photos and videos after a powerful thunderstorm rolled through the area.

As spectacular as it may have been to look at, at one point it caused a number of power outages.

Over 20,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were in the dark at one point. By Sunday afternoon, most outages had been restored.

But for most folks, it was a great opportunity to watch a Mother Nature sound and light show, as thunder rumbled and lightning crackled through the skies.
