...Snow will begin to mix with sleet and freezing rain this
evening in the south, but remain mostly snow over northern areas
much of the night...

.Snow will continue into this evening with periods of moderate to
heavy snow at times as cold, arctic air remains in place over much
of the region. Visibilities may briefly drop to near a quarter
mile, resulting in difficult and treacherous travel conditions. A
few locations may briefly receive up to an inch of snow per hour.

Warm air will gradually move in above the surface, transitioning
the snow to sleet and freezing rain this evening over southern
areas and late this evening over central areas. The precipitation
will be in the form of snow for most of the night in the northern
mountain areas. Total snowfall amounts will generally be 3 to 6
inches along the coast, in the 4 to 7 inch range in central areas
and further to the north and 5 to 8 inches in the northern
mountains. There will also be a light coating of ice in most
areas.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST WEDNESDAY...

The National Weather Service in Gray has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for snow, sleet and freezing rain...which is in effect
until 10 AM EST Wednesday. The Winter Weather Advisory is no
longer in effect.

* Hazard types...snow...sleet...and freezing rain.

* Accumulations...Snow accumulation of 5 to 8 inches...along
  with around a trace of ice.

* Timing...Accumulating snow will continue with a change to sleet
  and freezing rain very late tonight into Wednesday morning.

* Impacts...Snow covered roads will cause slippery travel
  conditions.

* Winds...East 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures...In the teens to lower 20s.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. There will also be a
light coating of ice. Only travel in an emergency. If you must
travel...keep an extra flashlight... food...and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Campbellton and eastern half of Restigouche County
Snowfall, with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

A warm front is forecast to approach New Brunswick tonight. Snow ahead of the front will begin overnight tonight and change to ice pellets Wednesday morning before tapering to isolated flurries by early afternoon.

Additionally, another low pressure system is expected to affect the region Thursday night with snow and strong winds. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts for updated information with regard to this system.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

Fredericton and Southern York County
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A warm front approaching from the southwest will bring snow this evening. The snow will change to ice pellets overnight, then to freezing rain Wednesday morning. The freezing rain should then persist for approximately 4 or 5 hours until a changeover to rain early Wednesday afternoon.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
A warm front is forecast to approach New Brunswick later today. Snow ahead of the front will begin this evening over southwestern regions of the province and will spread to the remainder of the province overnight. Most regions will see the snow change to ice pellets and then to freezing rain on Wednesday morning with some rain likely for southern New Brunswick Wednesday afternoon. Snowfall amounts near 10 cm can be expected over most regions with lesser amounts along the Fundy coast. Snowfall amounts of 10 to possibly 15 cm are expected over northernmost regions. Freezing rain duration of 2 to 3 hours can be expected over most regions Wednesday morning with warnings for a longer duration currently in effect for western central regions of the province. Additional freezing rain warnings may become necessary later today as the situation evolves.

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
A warm front is forecast to approach Nova Scotia later today. Snow ahead of the front has begun over southwestern regions and will spread to the remainder of the province this afternoon and tonight. Most regions can expect to see the snow change to ice pellets and then to freezing rain on Wednesday before tapering to showers during the day. Snowfall amounts of up to 10 centimetres are forecast.

Currently 2 to 3 hours of freezing rain can be expected. But, it is possible that some areas may experience a slightly longer duration especially over northern regions, including Cape Breton.
